What brand of marching bari/euph do you guys think is the best?

I don't play (at least, not enough to have played on more than one or two brands), but my favorite sound comes from a King Euph . . . just damn . . . .

I've played on Dynasty (2004), King (2005) and Yamaha (High School). I played tuba in 2005 so I only held a king bari once or twice but it was a pretty nice horn. Visually I would have to say Yamaha is the easiest to move but in terms of sound, King. "...just damn..." sums it up perfectly!

While Kings are "Just Damn.."..I'd have to say Dynasty.
I just love the deep dark sounds you get from those horns.
(note: i've never really played on many other horns besides the dynasty and the kings)
but contra wise, i love the Yahmahas!..
they look pretty clean and they play well

Well Locust, I won't go on about contras (or tubas, whichever you prefer) too much since this forum is devoted to Baritones and Euphoniums. However, The 5/4, 4-valve Dynasty was always my favorite. It was quite possibly one of the heaviest Bb horns on the market but oh baby did it ever sound good.

Sound-wise, Dynasty isn't bad. As much as I can't stand the brand, they don't sound bad . . . when played by a good line. The problem with them is that across the board, the horns simply can't take a decent amount of air before the bracing literally begins to rattle. It's mostly a problem in the high brass, but it's present in the low brass as well. Their customer service is amazing, their horns sound pretty good, but they just don't play well at all to me.

King and Yamaha both sound amazing, play great, and their customer service is average. Yamaha and King just come out on top to me, though King edges out in low brass and mellophones because of the richer, more present sound of their low brass, and the fact that their mellophones are decently balanced (whereas Yamaha is bell-heavy . . . a strange occurance in the mellophone). Yamaha takes it in trumpets though . . . if you've got the money for a line of Xenos, they'll kill a line of Kings any day. But yeah . . . that's all for me.

I vote for Yamaha. Personally, I can't stand King marching brass. I have never played a King marching euphonium but I have played King marching baritones, mellos, and sousaphones as well as Yamaha marching baritones, euphoniums, and sousaphones. I have also played trumpets, trombones, and concert euphoniums from both manufacturers.

The only King instruments I have enjoyed playing were their trombones and one Legend model trumpet. Other than that, trumpets = unresponsive and stuffy, and the others = HORRIBLE intonation. (that's marching baritones, concert euphoniums, sousaphones, and mellos)

(the king sousaphones I have played are also falling apart and seem to have been made from some sort of pudding)

The Yamaha instruments, on the other hand, are durable, look and sound great, and play very well in tune with themselves.

Personally im a fan of Dynasty, but Yamaha arent bad either. Both have great sound.
