I have a question that hopefully will not get everyone's tighties in a bunch. Let's give a brief description about our corps' show just to see how everything is. Now I know that some corps have a confidentiality issue. However, we could be mature people and keep program details quiet/secret. How about it?

P.S It's totally fine if you think it's not a good idea. Just don't bash me about it.

I will tell you from experience.

marching band is in "Some", and I stress "SOME" ways like athletic sports due to its outdoor conditioning.

However, the type of athleticism is different on different levels.

If you are comparing college marching band to be as difficult as playing football, and both at high levels its simply put.. Youre wrong.

Being an athlete and being a musician are two Extremely different things.

Band members have it easy in the off season with the concert band and such. Marching conditioning only takes around three or four months to complete. This, of course is depending on your level of experience. Drum Corps on one hand start their audition process in November and conditioning in early or late December. Football seasons last at least six months from the first game. Your superior teams go seven months out of the year in games. Marching seasons generally last four months.

Back to conditioning. For an athlete, it is his/or her choice to start their conditioning earlier than their respected teams. Some start a few weeks after the season is over, and others wait until team workouts begin.

Yes, musicians are always fine tuning themselves to become better players, BUT are you in the gym everyday while youre making yourself better as a musician to also make you better athletically, I beg to differ. There are some out there who have been gifted with their athletic ability as well as their musicianship, but not everyone has that gift. That goes the same for athletes. They condition themselves through tireless weight lifting, Cardio Vascular training, and strength training all on top of their regular position training with their respected teams.

Your musician athletes are the ones in the Div. 1 Drum Corps who make it into the top ten or more so the top five every season.

In sports the better team will always be the more prepared and better conditioned team. Marching band can hold the same abilities, but the preparation is much different and therefor not as blistering as a sport such as football.

Believe me, Ive been on both sides of this argument. Neither is easy and both sides produce challenges. One side just out weighs the other.
