Bob Chreste, formerly of Carolina Crown's brass staff (2003 - 2007) has been announced as the new brass caption head for the World Class Santa Clara Vanguard. Key Poulan will still be arranging, but expect several new faces on the brass staff, including Andre Feagin (ensemble specialist) and Donnie VanDoren (consultant).

I expect some serious sound out of this hornline next year . . . any thoughts?

I don't think it'll improve all too much really. Lately, the visual demand has been affecting their playing (SCV 06 prime example). If there was less, then I would have to say that they will break the new Lucas Oil Stadium to pieces.

I know many people don't buy into it, and many others resent it, but the teaching philosophy that Bob and Andre use has literally worked miracles for three other ensembles that were decent, but not amazing. Cases in point: Star of Indiana, Carolina Crown, and Memphis Sound (with Memphis being a one season turnaround to a ring). As soon as this technique was applied to these corps, they began seriously moving up in quality and scores. Not to mention, the '80s Cadets (though they were great to begin with). While others may not like the technique, or believe it's anything special, I've seen it in action, and I'm a believer. They may have issues with visual demand, but I know the SCV brass is going back to the top. It may not be immediate, but it will be very soon.
